Terraskin Article

#1 - Start up my line again, I’ve really have been busy with some fun custom projects and my other job AND my baby, but now it’s time to bring back my collection. Fall 2010 will be available at Unicorn boutique! Images to come soon.

#2 - Design and create a new line of children’s wear with my husband (that’s right, we got married, finally made things official). The new line will be called doozy and will feature pieces made in Montreal in an eco-friendly way. I can’t divulge too much now, but it’s in the works.

#3 -Keep on top of this blog as well as update my website.

#4 Promote myself as a custom wedding dress designer. I have made many wedding dresses over the last few years and it’s something I love doing.

I could go on and on with this list but I will keep to those four items which are going to keep me very busy for sure. So, I’ve thought about it, written it down and am sharing it. Now all I have to do is pull it off!

My girls looked great all done up with Stella and Dot jewelery, bold red lips and kind of a bouffon hairstyle (sounds strange but it worked!). I think the best part of my job is seeing all the models ready to go backstage just before a show. Everything comes together and all the hard work is done!! 

My boyfriend had come down with the flu and couldn’t make it but lucky for me my parents came to the rescue and babysat Theo for me while I worked. Phew!

Thank you the the models, Sandra at Stella and Dot, the hair and make-up team and Rania who organized the event, can’t wait for next year!

Coming up soon (Nov 4th-7th), I’ll be participating in a fashion show to raise money for ovarian cancer. A great group of Canadian designers will be showcasing their collections. I’m happy to be part of the event -to have more people see the designs, but more importantly to do what I can for the cause. Right now I don’t have the funds to make a big donation but I can give my time, I’ll be showing my Fall collection and just to make it more interesting, I decided to create a few new styles. I admit, it’s mostly for myself since I designed that collection what feels like ages ago! I have some ideas in mind and now just need to find the time to whip them up!!

Now it’s September -I’m not going back to school but I feel like I am in that, I’m back to work. Part-time, but it feels like more than full-time. Trying to juggle baby, work, sleep, exercise and maybe some fun seems slightly impossible. I’ve just started though, so I’m optimistic that I’ll find some sort of balance. I thank my lucky stars for my mum. Not only did she give birth to me, bring me up, stay supportive all my life, but now she is helping me take care of my son -AMAZING! My sister is helping out as well. I do feel slightly guilty about this, but they assure me there’s no need.

I have some fun projects on the go right now, all custom work. Three wedding dresses, an amazing outfit for someone going to her brother’s wedding and some alterations. Thinking about my next collection of course and trying to figure out fabrics.

Although it happened at little while ago, I came across a few photos from a fashion show I was a part of and thought I should share them. I was one of about 20 Canadian designers to make a one of a kind red dress for a Canadian celebrity who would model it in a show at Toronto Fashion Week. The Heart and Stroke Foundation put on the show as a part of their “Red Dress Campaign” to spread awareness about heart disease. It was a pleasure to be a part of the event and to do what I can for a great cause. I was paired up with “Being Erica’s” star, Erin Karpluk. She was a wonderful, spunky model with a great attitude and showed off my dress very well!

I went to Toronto to watch the show and it was a great atmosphere, not as serious as other shows. You could really feel that we where all there for a reason, and not just fashion.

During the past few years I’ve worked on more and more wedding dresses as well as bridesmaids dresses. I love making custom, one of a kind pieces and being able to spend lots of time and effort on one outfit (from handwork to beading and using really nice fabrics).

About a year ago to the day, Tanis and Jared got married in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I got to work with them on Tanis’ dress as well as all the bridesmaids dresses. It was fun collaborating to come up with the design and pick fabric and even better to go to the wedding and see it all come together! Here are some photos of their wedding and I’ll keep posting other bridal work I’ve done. Happy one year anniversary to Tanis and Jared!
