My good friend Alexis (the smartest and most fashionable lady I know) now has a blog at artsandculture.com. This is a blog to follow for all things fashion, from top ten resources for fashion designers to fashion muses of the twentieth century and various interviews.
This week she also asked me some questions about my line and fashion in general.
Take a look:

So, I haven’t posted in a bit because I had a baby!! He was born June 11th at bright and early at 6:06am. It was the most overwhelming experience of my life both physically and emotionally and hard to describe. The labour was 8 hours from start to finish and became very intense pretty quickly. I had my love Irvine by my side, my wonderful doula Jo along with the nurses at the hospital and finally Dr.Luskey who is not only my family friend and obstetrician but the doctor who delivered me! With this support I made it through and got to finally meet Theo!
As I mentioned before, I’m pregnant and expecting any day now -June 13th is my due date. This is the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me and I can’t wait! I just want to meet the guy and see what he looks like!!
I have finally finished work which is amazing! I’ve been looking forward to resting up and relaxing before his arrival. Of course, I had to do something with my time so I started making a baby quilt… I used fabric I had. Some I dyed myself with natural dyes, others I screenprinted and the rest I had lying around the studio. I still have to make a border, cut out the fabric for the other side and then I plan on doing a lot of embroidery on it. Heres’s a picture of it so far…

I love working with my hands and somehow the repetitive nature of embroidery and embellishment really appeal to me. I could spend hours, make that days, working away at a design. One of these days I’d like to start a huge embroidery piece that I work on throughout my life. I would keep adding to it every year. Maybe it will look a bit like a patchwork so I can use pieces I’ve already done. Here’s a little taste of what I’m talking about…
The Fall brought a lot of fashion shows my way starting with Toronto Fashion Week. I presented my Spring 2009 collection, Enfold, in the Studio tent at L’Oreal Fashion Week October 24th, 2008. I had a lot of help from my stylist the amazing Juliana Schiavinatto (who works at Plutino Group), to Dan Grant at Giovanni Model Management, to all the ladies at Brill communications -they helped fill the house! I was thinking, I hope people come to the show. In the end, it was packed! I also had my friend Veronica and the love of my life Irvine to help me out.
Big news, I had just found out I was pregnant and was feeling pretty terrible. Luckily, fashion took over my mind and I forgot about the morning sickness!
It was amazing to see all the girls lined up wearing pieces from the collection, almost like a dream. Everything went smoothly and it was hard to believe all that work and the show was less than 10 minutes!
Being a part of Fashion Week was definitely a big investment for my business and one that is hard to measure in terms of results. I’m happy I took the risk, but next time (there will be a next time!) I do a fashion week show, I’ll have to find sponsors and the financial support necessary to put on a very professional show.
Here’s a video of the show:
So, I’m a Montreal fashion designer and this will be my blog! I love textiles, art and fashion and will share what I’m upto and what gets me going. First I’ll catch you up on a few things. The last year or so has been a bit crazy, I would say starting with the Toronto Fashion Incubator’s New Labels competition held last April which I happened to have won! I showed my Fall 2008 collection entitled Heartfelt which was inspired by the handmade in fashion. My label is, eugenia, and I make Organic cocktail wear made in Canada! Other amazing designers in the competition were: Adrienne Butikofer, Lara Presber and Ashley Rowe -all very talented ladies.
